About Soul Source

Soul Source is a six-piece Soul and R&B band out of Missoula, Montana. Soul Source features:

  D. Willie Roberts on vocals and guitar: Willie is a multi-decadal artist fronting bands across the US. Willie was a foundational member of the Missoula blues scene in the 70's who has returned to Missoula to bring Soul and R&B to town.
Edie Smith on keyboards and vocals: Edie has an eclectic musical background of rock, jazz, and blues with local bands. Smooth organ fills and popping piano chords add a classic R&B vibe.
Ram Murphy on bass: After moving to Missoula from San Francisco Ram has played bass in innumerable bands for decades. He claims to not play music, but rather to "work" bass.
Jonny Olsen on drums: Jonny Olsen brings flavor and feel to the kit, grounding the band in soul and funk. From laid-back swagger to hard-driving groove, his playing is built to move — because if it doesn't move, it doesn't groove.

Featuring the Zoola Horns

Satchel Murphy on trombone: Soulman Satchel Murphy channels the classic horns of bands like the Famous Flames and the JBs.
Blake Mikkola on tenor sax and trumpet: Multi-instrumentalist Blake Mikkola, the Professor, leans a bit to the jazzbo side, bringing honey and hot sauce to the Zoola Horns and Soul Source

The band channels Memphis soul from Stax/Volt and Hi records, funky New Orleans R&B, and early Philly or Motown soul, as well as more recent material from Soul Men like Robert Cray, Curtis Salgado, Carl Weathersby, and Rafael Sadiq.
